How to get to Nerja

To get to Nerja, you have several options depending on your location and transport preferences, here is how to get to Nerja:

  • Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) is one of the most important in Spain and is well connected to many European and some international cities.
  • Transport from the airportFrom the airport, you can take a taxi, a bus (line A) or a train (Cercanías C1) to get to the centre of Malaga and from Malaga take a bus from Malaga to Nerja. You can also hire the Rios Shuttle service

Nerja has no train station, so the most common option is to take the train to Malaga and then a bus or car from there to get to Nerja.

Bus: You can make the journey by bus from Malaga bus station to Nerja with a duration of approximately one hour.

RoadsFrom Malaga you can take one of the main motorways, in this case the A-7 towards Almeria and you will reach the exit towards Nerja in about 50 minutes. 

Nerja has no marina to reach by boat, however you can do so through its two nearest ports:

  • Port of MalagaMalaga has a port which receives ferries and cruise ships, it is located 60km west of Nerja. From here you can get to Nerja by bus, car or taxi.

  • Marina del Este marina (Almuñecar)Almuñécar has a harbour which receives smaller boats, it is located 20km west of Nerja. From here you can travel to Nerja by bus, car or taxi.

  • City busesThere are several lines that cover key points of the city such as Burriana Beach, the Balcón de Europa, the Health Centre, and residential areas. City buses usually run between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the line and time of day. You can buy tickets directly on the bus. 
  • Tourist Train "Nerja City Tour": It goes to places such as the Balcón de Europa, Burriana Beach, and the historic centre. It runs every 30-40 minutes.
  • Taxis and private transport servicesTaxis and services such as Uber, Bolt and Cabify are available.
