What is the Chorro Beer Fest?
A festival of craft beer bringing together breweries from the local area, Spain and abroad, with more than 25 varieties to taste.
What sets it apart from other beer festivals is not the format, but its location: at the foot of the Gaitanes Gorge, in a mountain village of three hundred people, beneath the towering canyon walls.
And it is not just about beer. The programme has four main elements:
Craft beer
More than 25 varieties from local microbreweries and brands from further afield, from mild lagers to IPAs and stouts. Tastings use the festival’s official glass, the usual system at events of this kind.
Live music
Concerts on both days, featuring bands from the village and the province, plus DJ sets throughout the day. The line-up is published alongside the dates.
Food
Food trucks and local stalls, serving Málaga cuisine and international dishes chosen to pair with the beers.
And yes, you can bring children
This is what surprises many people. The festival organises craft workshops and outdoor games for little ones, making it a family outing as well as an adult celebration.
Where exactly is it?

On the square outside El Chorro church, a village in Álora, right at the southern exit of the Caminito del Rey.
How to get there:
- By train: is the best option. The station of El Chorro–Caminito del Rey is a few minutes’ walk from the venue, with Media Distancia trains from Málaga taking 45 minutes to an hour. And if you plan to drink, arrange your return journey.
- By car: via the A-357 towards Ardales, then the turn-off to El Chorro. Parking is limited in the village.
- By shuttle bus: some editions have offered a bus service from Álora, Pizarra and Ardales for a small fee. Check the programme for the year, as it is not guaranteed.
The ideal plan: Caminito in the morning, festival in the afternoon

Here is the real reason to come, and it fits perfectly:
The Caminito del Rey ends in El Chorro, exactly where the festival takes place. You can therefore walk the route in the morning and head straight to the festival grounds, without getting into a car.
How to make it work:
- An early entry slot for the Caminito, around 9:00 or 10:00.
- Three or four hours on the route, finishing around midday.
- Return your helmet and you are already in El Chorro. The festival opens in the afternoon.
And the detail that completes the plan: if you came by train, you do not have to drive home.
One word of warning, though: Caminito tickets sell out, especially over the festival weekend. Book in advance. Everything you need to know is in Tips for visiting El Caminito.
Where to eat and stay
El Chorro is a small village and fills up over the festival weekend. If you plan to stay overnight, book well in advance.
Places to eat in the area, with opening hours and useful notes, are listed in Where to eat at the Caminito del Rey.
What else is nearby?
If you are coming for the festival, the area has enough to fill a whole weekend:
- The ten highlights of the Caminito, from the Sillón del Rey to the Glass Viewpoint.
- Ardales and the reservoirs, fifteen minutes away.
- The history of the Caminito, which begins with a railway and ends with a king.
And if you enjoy heights, right there you will find the via ferrata at El Chorro.
Our excursion on the festival dates
We are a local Málaga operator with more than 50 years’ experience organising trips around Andalusia, and we adapt our excursion over the Beer Fest weekend to fit in with the event.
What is included on those dates:
- Entrance to the Caminito del Rey and a Spanish- and English-speaking accompanying guide.
- Return transport from Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola or Ardales. And this is the biggest advantage: you do not have to drive home.
- One extra hour after finishing the route, so you have time to enjoy the festival.
- A discount on beer tasting, purchased on the day through the guide.
Check the conditions for the current edition when booking, as the package is adjusted each year to the festival’s dates and times.
