El Caminito del Rey was born out of necessity during the construction of the Córdoba-Málaga railway.
The engineer Rafael Benjumea Burín was the one who took the reins of this project.
In 1921 the monarch Alfonso XIII attended the inauguration of the Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir in the area, for the laying of the last stone of the El Chorro dam.

El Caminito del Rey is known throughout the world as the one of the most dangerous trails in the world.
A spectacular walk along trails and walkways attached to the wall where the maximum height reaches an altitude of 105 metres with a total distance of 7.7 kilometres.
This trail is located in the natural area of Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. was closed at the beginning of the 21st centurydue to a number of fatal accidents.
Reopened to the public in 2015, today it is one of the most important the most recommended routes not to be missed in the province of Malaga.
