Where is Mount Victoria?

Monte Victoria is located to the north-east of the historic centre of Malaga, in the Centro district, very close to neighbourhoods such as La Victoria and El Ejido.. It is a relatively easily accessible hill that forms part of the belt of hills surrounding the city. It can be reached on foot in less than 30 minutes from the Plaza de la Merced. This makes it an ideal getaway without having to leave the capital.
From the top, the visitor can contemplate an impressive panoramic view that stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to the Malaga Mountains, including the silhouette of Gibralfaro Castle, the port and the cathedral. Viewpoints and panoramic views from Mount Victoria
Although Monte Victoria does not have official viewpoints like Gibralfaro, its dirt tracks and natural clearings offer spectacular views. At sunset, the sun sets over the golden rooftops of Malaga, while the sea melts into the horizon. It is an ideal place for photographers, nature lovers and those seeking a moment of calm.
One of the best known spots on the hill is the area where the famous "three letters" are painted on the hillside, visible from many parts of the city. Although their origin is controversial, they have become a symbol of the cityscape.
Legends and curiosities of Mount Victoria

One of the most striking aspects of the Mount Victoria is the number of legends and curiosities that surround it.
The most famous is the "three letters" graffiti on the hillside.visible from a large part of the city. Although their exact origin is not confirmed, some claim that they were painted as a political message during the Spanish Transition, while others maintain that it was simply a youthful prank that ended up becoming an icon.
Malaga legends tell of ancient tunnels that connected the mountain with the castle of Gibralfaro, passages used by soldiers or even smugglers.
Others swear to have seen vanishing shadows among the trees, especially near the old hermitage that is said to have been a gathering place for rituals during the post-war period. Reality or suggestion? No one knows. But you can be sure of one thing: walking in the bush when it starts to get dark has an eerie charm.
These stories have been passed down from generation to generation and are part of the soul of the place. Hearing a "they say that..." from a neighbour as you walk around is part of the experience.
