By the 18th century, the construction of the cathedral was almost complete, with the exception of one of the two towers foreseen in the original design. However, due to various reasons, the south tower was left unfinished, which ended up giving the cathedral its characteristic image. This historical fact is a source of curiosity for many visitors, who are curious about it. often ask why Malaga has a "one-armed" cathedral..

malaga cathedral

The nickname La Manquita has deeply touched the hearts of the people of Malaga, who see their cathedral not only as a religious symbol, but also as a cultural and sentimental element that reflects the spirit of the city: resilient, beautiful and imperfect, but always unique.

The Cathedral of the Incarnation in Malaga is known as the La Manquita because it is missing one of the towers, which was never completed. One of the most popular theories about this fact is that funds intended to complete the construction of the south tower were diverted at the time to support the American War of Independence.

Although this version is not fully confirmed, it is a story that has become deeply embedded in the popular imagination and has added a touch of mystery to this emblematic monument.
