Day trip to Antequera from Málaga: El Torcal, dolmens and the town centre

Come and visit us Antequera, one of the cities with the richest history and culture in Andalusia, situated in the heart of the province of Málaga.

We’ll start our excursion at the stunning Torcal de Antequera, accompanied by a guide who knows the area well. During a circular walking route, you’ll discover this spectacular karst landscape, formed millions of years ago and full of astonishing rock formations. Along the way, we’ll visit some of its most iconic spots, such as The Screw, a symbol of the area, The Little Hat o The UFO, whilst our guide tells us how this unique landscape was formed and reveals the hidden wonders it holds.

Next, we’ll head to the Antequera’s historic centre to take a guided tour of its most iconic streets, squares and monuments.

Our route will take us to one of the highest parts of the city, where we’ll stop at the Las Almenillas Viewpoint. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Antequera and admire one of the great landmarks of its landscape: the unmistakable Lovers’ Rock. Very close to the viewpoint, we’ll cross the spectacular Arch of the Giants, one of the city’s most iconic monumental gates. On the other side, the impressive Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor, one of the great landmarks of the Renaissance in Andalusia and a building that stands out for its monumental architecture. We shall continue to explore the surroundings of the Santa María Square, where we’ll make another stop to enjoy the views over part of the town. From here, we’ll be able to see such iconic sights as the ancient Roman baths and the Church of El Carmen. The tour will continue through the historic centre, taking in some of Antequera’s most charming spots, such as the Church of Las Descalzas, before bringing our guided tour to an end at the Plaza San Sebastián, one of the city’s most iconic and lively spots. After the visit, you’ll have free time to enjoy Antequera at your own pace. You’ll be able to have lunch, stroll through the streets, continue exploring the monuments or visit one of the cultural venues. But the experience won’t be over yet. At the time specified by our guide, we’ll meet up again to visit one of Antequera’s greatest treasures: The Dolmens of Antequera, designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
