The festival is always held on the last weekend of August, from Thursday to Sunday, offering four full days of daytime and evening events.

Are there any fireworks at the festival this year?

No. The organisers have cancelled the fireworks display due to restrictions linked to the risk of forest fires, and are replacing it with a multimedia show. This is a recent change, so many previous guidebooks and reference materials still mention the opening and closing fireworks displays; it is advisable to check the official channels for the timetable of the new show.

Is the 3 Cultures Festival free?

Yes, entry to the festival and most of its activities is free, including the concerts in the town squares. You only pay for what you buy on the Tapas Trail or at the stalls in the craft market.

Where can you park during the festival?

There are three designated areas in the lower part of the village: Puerto Blanquillo, Salida Exótica and Salida Pueblo Rocío, the latter two on the Nerja–Frigiliana road. They open in turn as they fill up, so it’s best to arrive early. There is also a free shuttle bus running between the car parks and the village entrance from 7.00 pm to 3.00 am throughout the four days.

How do you get to the festival from Nerja without a car?

During the festival, there is a special night-time service between the two towns that runs until three in the morning, with departures from Parque de Andalucía and the roundabout at the entrance to Frigiliana, and from Nerja bus station. It is the most convenient option for anyone going out for dinner or staying out late.

Why is the Festival of the Three Cultures held in Frigiliana?

Because the town is home to one of the best-preserved Moorish neighbourhoods in Spain and was the scene of the end of that coexistence: in 1569, on El Peñón de Frigiliana, the hill overlooking the town, the battle was fought that brought the Moorish rebellion in the Axarquía to an end.
